Here's a piece from my character design class that I took during the summer. The concept was to take a fable, such as the three little pigs, and adapt it into a modern warfare theme.
I like the render style you put into these as well as the design I think the next step is to decide on an area of focus in regards to lighting and detail cause I don't know where my eye is supposed to go. It's something I'm trying to hone as well. The joys of struggling to get better. hope all is well.
Thanks for the comments Carl. Yeah, I agree with you on having a focal point when designing. I have a bad habit of over-rendering so much that I forget to lead the eye in the design. I could of actually saved so much time by just only rendering the points of interests in my characters haha.
